Want to Make Your Own Homemade Soy Candles?

How To Make Soy Candles
Why are soy candles better than most other candles?
Soy wax is popular nowadays because a soy candle is made from natural materials.
That means working with a natural base offers a safer alternative to smokeless black-free soot candles.
Allow me to explain…
Why use soy wax for candles if it’s a little bit more expensive than paraffin wax?
More people prefer this type of candle because it;s environmently friendly and nature-based.
Soy wax is a natural wax usually made from organic soybeans.
The soybean flakes are extracted and hydrogenated to get the oil out which is the main ingredient used to make the soy wax.
In the United States, the supply of soybeans comes from Illinois, Iowa and Indiana.
If you’re familiar with paraffin wax candles, you probably know the flame produces black soot.
On the other hand, soy candles burn cleaner because the soot is white and nicer in appearance.
Making soy candles is similar to that of paraffin candle making.
You basically use the same candle making equipment and techniques.
There’s not that much of a difference in the amount of ingredients used for each candle.
You’re using the same double boiler for melting soy wax or paraffin wax.
The temperature for heating the soy wax is also the same.
The melt point is usually set at 150 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
Tip: Soy wax should not be heated directly on top of the stove.
It is also recommended that you don’t keep the wax heated over 150 degrees for long period because the color of the soy wax turns yellow.
As soon as the wax is melted, mix the desired color and stir the mixture.
The fragrance should be added when the boiler is removed from the stove using the standard amount of fragrance oil.
We typically use a mixture of 1.12 ounces of candle making fragrance oil per one pound of soy wax.
Tip: Too much candle making fragrance oil will ruin the candle.
How To Make Soy Candles:
- Use a candle thermometer set at 95 to 110 degrees
- While the wax is still hot pour the melted soy wax into the candle molds
- The candle wicks should be prepared beforehand…
- Allow the candle to cool down for several hours
Tip: Soy candles will crack if poured cold or cooled using water.
One big difference in using soy wax from the other wax is its softness.
Since soy wax is made from soybeans, it’s a softer base material, so soy wax shouldn’t be used in making novelty candles, taper candles or pillar candles.
Tip: Soy wax is good for floating candles and other types that measure in size of up to 3 inches in diameters only.
Scented or not scented, candles can be made from paraffin and soy wax.
These two kinds of wax can hold scents, fragrances, and colors in the candle. But aside from the usual and ordinary techniques, using new materials for candle making is just like creating new dishes using new recipes.
By using other materials for your handmade candles, you get to select theĀ ingredients that are best in producing the quality candles you want.
Perhaps soy candle might be a little more expensive, although, the cost does come down buying from the right soy candle making supplies.
How much you value the benefits of using an enviroment-friendly and bio-degradable material…
You get the choice not only for your own joy and pleasure, it’s also a good fit for your candle making business.
Soy candles and paraffin candles have similarities as far as candle making, although, soy candles do have differences of their own in many other ways.
